Ogun State House of Assembly today passed two resolutions requesting for its approval by the Executive arm to obtain internal loans of N15 billion from GTB Plc to finance various “Ogun Standard” projects across the State and another N1.6 billion from ECOBANK Nigeria limited to pay UBEC counterpart fund.
Opening the debate, the Majority Leader, Hon. Israel Jolaoso who moved the motion supporting the request underscored the need for the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led-government to continue with the on- going development projects across the State, saying that the Assembly had earlier held a stakeholders with the Ministry Finance on modalities for repayment.
Other lawmakers who spoke in favour of the resolutions included Honourables Bowale Solaja, Adeyinka Mafe, John Obafemi , Olayiwola Ojodu, Tunrayo Adeleye –Oladapo, Aina Akinpelu, Abiodun Akovoyon, Wilfred Allen-Taylor, Salmon Adeleke and Olusola Bankole said the loan would further advance the socio-economic development of the State.
The lawmakers said their support for the passage of the resolutions was borne out the fact that the Executive arm had fulfilled all the rules involved and called on government to ensure that the projects were spread to all parts of the State.
They also enjoined the State government to invest more in employment generation programmes, so that more employment opportunities would be created for the youths.
The Assemblymen also submitted that the payment of the counterpart fund for the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) would further boost primary education in the State as the various dilapidated schools would be renovated, thereby restoring the past glory of the sector.
Passing the resolution with twenty three other Assemblymen in attendance, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi, thanked his colleagues for ensuring a robust debate on the resolutions, saying that the Assembly would continue to work for the development of the State.
