Relief will soon come the way of owners of illegal structures in Agbado, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State as the Ministry of Physical Planning in the State is making arrangements to introduce the “Agbado Global Acquisition Amnesty Programme”. Under the programme, owners of such structures would be given a six month grace to regularize their papers at a cost that is lower than the amount they would have paid ordinarily.
Commissioner for Physical Planning, Adebayo Fari who dropped this hint in Abeokuta while addressing newsmen on the activities of the Ministry, explained that the areas to benefit from the gesture include Ope-ilu, Ijoko, Lemode, Itoki, Abule Ekun, Akute, Oke-Aro among others. Fari indicated that already, officials of the Ministry were putting finishing touches to logistics to ensure a hitch-free exercise, calling on those involved to avail themselves of the opportunity while the programme lasted. The Commissioner revealed that if implemented successfully, similar gesture would be extended to owners of such structures in other parts of the State and help put an end to the incessant threat to live and property by land speculators popularly known as Omo-Oniles. He added that the Ministry had also concluded arrangements to engage the services of some Consultants who are professionals in the building industry to work with its officials to liberalize the procurement of title documents, carry out appraisal of Development Plan Permits, and identify areas requiring preparation of scheme lay-out within the period of the amnesty. Also speaking on the amnesty programme, the Permanent Secretary TPL Taiwo Megbope said it would be of immense benefit to owners of illegal structures as they would have the opportunity of paying less on building assessment and ratification. He added that the programme would equally address issues of likely demolition of such structures once and for all.
