Residents of communities in Ogun State have been charged to make judicious use of facilities and participate actively in all programmes of Primary Healthcare Centres available in their respective areas. The Director, Primary Healthcare Development Board in the State, Dr. Kafayat Lawal who gave the charge said doing so, would go a long way in improving their health status. Dr Lawal made this assertion in Abeokuta while addressing representatives of Community Development Committee (CDC) from UNFPA supported Health facilities in the State.
She explained that the need to patronize and buy into activities of Primary Health care services such as immunization, reproductive health, eye care, nutrition, household practices among others cannot be over-emphasised. The medical practitioner pointed out that the involvement of communities in government health projects and programmes would encourage Development partners, governments and Non-Governmental Organisations to facilitate more of such programmes and would ultimate make living more abundant for them. “Active participation of community members in government projects and programmes would help to inculcate maintenance culture by people and this tends to bring about more and improve developmental activities by private and international donor agencies” She said. “We need your support and commitment to the services rendered by our medical and health workers for people to access efficient healthcare services in the nooks and crannies of the state,” Dr. Lawal added. In their respective responses, representatives of the CDC lauded the State Government for its various programmes to enhance the standard of living of residents of the State, particularly those bordering on health issues. They requested for the construction of more primary health facilities and renovation of existing ones, particularly those at the rural areas so as to enhance patronage and healthy living.
