The Ogun state government has expressed its willingness to partner with investors from Canada in developing its five cardinal programmes to further make life more meaningful for the people.
Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun stated this while receiving the Canadian high commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Chris Cooter at the government house in Abeokuta. According to the governor, it is the desire of his administration to transform the state in the areas of education, agriculture, health, power. Security and infrastructural development among others noting that these are areas where Canada has expertise and the wherewithal to help Ogun state. Ogun state is a unique state, it has the largest concentration of industries in Nigeria, blessed with good land for agriculture ,and my administration is working assiduously to harness this advantage in order to lead the state to industrialization’ the governor said. Governor Amosun also sought the cooperation of the Canadian government in the area of vocational and technical education saying that he recently inaugurated a board for vocational and technical education to enhance technical manpower in the state. The governor also used the opportunity to thank the Canadian government for her assistance to Nigeria during and after the June 12, 1993 Presidential election urging Canada to be more involved in Nigeria’s political system. Speaking earlier, the Canadian high commissioner, Mr Chris Cooter commended governor Amosun for the on- going infrastructural development going on across the state. He assured the governor of Canada’s commitment to train youths in the state in skill acquisition as well as promote the exchange of educational programmes between his country and Ogun state.
