Now that the rains are here, residents of Ijebu–Ode have been charged to always keep their environment clean and dispose their wastes properly to prevent them from blocking the water ways and drainages.
Doing this, according to the Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area, Razaq Dadah would go a long way in addressing the problem of flooding which threatens lives and property. Daddah who gave the charge while inspecting some waste bins and depots provided by the State Government for the use of residents, urged them not to make environmental cleaning exercise a monthly affair, but something that must be done daily to enhance healthy living. “Keeping our environment clean always is very important, that is why every Thursday has been set aside as sanitation days in our markets. Not only that, house to house inspection is on course to ensure that people don’t engage in filthy habits through indiscriminate refuse disposal which can cause diseases” He noted. He assured that the Departments of Works and Environment of the Council would move to keep the waterways and drainages free of dirt to prevent flooding and step up sensitization campaigns to enlighten the populace. The Council boss warned that anyone caught disposing wastes at unauthorised spots would be dealt with accordingly
