(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/animated-ministerial01.gif) The next phase of the National Good Governance Tour, a media inspection of projects of Governments at the three tiers of government in Nigeria, is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, 17th April to Tuesday, 30th April, 2013 with visits to Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina States.
The tour, which commenced in September, 2012 with the inspection of Federal, State and Local Government projects beginning with the FCT, has so far covered 16 States in the North-Central, South-South and South-East Geo-political Zones.
According to a statement from the tour coordinators, "The tour has brought new momentum to governance in the States so far covered as searchlight is beamed on performance of government at all levels."
The tour's main objective is to entrench good governance by providing a platform for members of the tour team and citizens to obtain firsthand information about government policies, programmes and projects. The team comprises representatives of the national and foreign mass media, a strong social media team, civil society organisations, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Radio, Television and Theatre Art Workers Union (RATTAWU), National Council of Women's Societies (NCWS), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and representatives of the Presidency and the National Planning Commission.
In addition to inspection visits to project sites, the tour features at every State, a Citizens' Forum, which is a platform for robust exchange of ideas between Government and the Citizens. The forum is usually aired live on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and other media organisations. It is also streamed live on all social media platforms, including the website of the Federal Ministry of Information. It is also publicised through Blackberry, Face book, Twitter and YouTube.
The statement from the coordinators also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their avid interest in the NGGT so far and invited all citizens at home and abroad to actively monitor and participate in the tour as it moves to the North-West Geo-political Zone of the country.
