Title: Bayern Munich Calm Over Sad Gomez
Post by: Folami David on Apr 16, 2013, 04:21 PM
Bayern Munich bosses have reacted calmly to comments by the adviser to striker Mario Gomez, who says the Germany international is unhappy with his current role as a substitute.
.
"I do not know what Mario is planning," chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said. "Let's wait and see. I cannot evaluate the comments of his adviser."
.
Gomez has been unable to reclaim a regular starting place in the side this season after returning from injury, but was on target in Saturday's 4-0 rout of Nuremberg as coach Jupp Heynckes rested players including first-choice striker Mario Mandzukic.
.
It was the eighth goal of the season for Gomez who is under contract at Bayern until 2016.
.
He is now vying with Claudio Pizarro for a place in the side in the Champions League semifinal first leg against Barcelona, when Mandzukic will be serving a suspension.
.
Gomez's adviser, Uli Ferber, told Bild newspaper Saturday the reserve role for 27-year-old Gomez could not be "a permanent situation." There has been interest from other clubs, he said "Of course, Mario is not happy with the situation," he added.
.
There could be movement on the transfer market if reports of Bayern's interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, leads to a signing.
.
With the Bundesliga title wrapped up, Bayern are now focusing on their last-four ties in the Champions League and the German Cup, with a semifinal match against Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
.
Bayern are playing Barcelona on April 23 and May 1 and against Nuremberg Heynckes rested nine starters from the mid-week 2-0 victory at Juventus.
.
"Any player can come in at any time," Heynckes said after the emphatic win at the Allianz Arena.
.
"This season, we're a very positive unit, a real team.
.
The players who aren't in the team are just as involved. Naturally, I'll change things around for Tuesday. We have a massive programme, both behind us and still to come."
.
Rummenigge said the victory showed the depth of the Bayern squad.
.
"The players who've come into the team were determined to show they're in the squad by rights, and that's what they've done," he said.
.
"They were very motivated. Hats off to all of them. I'm relaxing and enjoying our football at the moment, and it's wonderful."
.
Munich have 78 points and are just three off the record 81 from Dortmund last year with five games left, a week after clinching the title in record time.
.
Dortmund are a distant second with 58, ahead of Bayer Leverkusen (50), who drew 2-2 at fourth- placed Schalke (46).

It seems the club does nt need him anymore. They've found a better stricker right now for the team. He does a better job
