Department of Anthropology, University of Copenhagen is offering PhD scholarship in Anthropology of Disaster. The program will begin on 1 September 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. The duration of PhD program is three years. Applicants from all suitably qualified people regardless of age, gender, race, religion, ethnic background and citizenship are welcomed to apply. Students must have a degree in anthropology and a fieldwork experience from a disaster, complex emergency and/or development setting. Students must have good communicative and analytical skills. Eligibility: -The applicant must have prior fieldwork experience from a disaster, complex emergency and/or development setting and a degree in anthropology or a related discipline.

-Theyexpect applicants to be able to take active part in, and contribute to establishing, an international, interdisciplinary working environment, characterized by high performance standards, entrepreneurship, curiosity and dynamism.

Scholarship Description: The PhD scholarship is funded by the UCPH Excellence Program for Interdisciplinary Research and is part of "Changing Disasters", an interdisciplinary research program setting out to explore the relationship between disasters and societies. The aim of "Changing Disasters" is to investigate how the perpetual presence of real or virtual disasters gives shape to contemporary societies. As hybrid phenomena disasters cannot be explored without 360 degrees knowledge of the various dimensions of human life. The research project is therefore coordinated by researchers from all six faculties of the University of Copenhagen covering theology, law, cultural studies, anthropology, engineering and economics.

Duration of award(s): The PhD student has a work obligation of up to 840 hours over the 3 year period of time without additional pay. The work obligation can for instance include teaching.

What does it cover? PhD students are paid a salary in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

Notification: The applicants will be notified of the composition of the committee. When the assessment committee has finished the evaluation each applicant will receive the evaluation of his/her application.
