The winners of the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards (http://www.worldphoto.org/about-the-sony-world-photography-awards/) were announced today at a gala in London. Lucky honorees celebrated victories in categories spanning architecture, current affairs, landscape and travel.
Hosted by the World Photography Organization (http://www.worldphoto.org/), the annual Sony World Photography extravaganza began earlier this year when the competition received 122,000 submitted entries -- a record number of submissions. A few shortlists of winners were released in February 2013 -- Open, Youth, and Professional (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/06/sony-world-photography-awards-2013-photos-shortlist_n_2632052.html) -- while titles like "Overall Open Winner of the Year" and "Student Focus Photographer of the Year" were reserved for this month's grand celebration.
