(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/hajiya-zainab-maina_0-300x213.jpg) Women and Girl-Child education has been described as a veritable instrument of achieving sustainable national development, arresting defeminised poverty as well as the key to achieving the Millennium Development Goal on women empowerment and gender equality.
The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, stated this when she received UFUK DIALOGUE FOUNDATION, a Turkish Women Organisation focused on education and health development between Nigeria and Turkey.
According to Hajiya Maina, Nigeria is now witnessing remarkable increase in Girl-Child enrolment figures in all categories of the educational system, pointing out that this was as a result of deliberate policy of the present administration and its focus on transforming Nigeria in all aspects of national life.
She said Nigerian Women are now making in-roads into various areas of development because of the favourable atmosphere being provided by the administration.
"The Nigerian Women are grateful to a women-friendly administration, which is fully committed to gender mainstreaming and gender balance in all aspects of national life," said the Minister.
Hajiya Maina, who acknowledged the contributions of Turkey towards the educational development of Nigeria, called on the Organisation to partner the Federal Government in giving priority attention to Girl-Child education in Nigeria as a way o bridging the glaring gender imbalance in the country.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mrs. Amina Tuylu disclosed that within the last 15 years, Turkey has established at least 15 schools in Nigeria, with the aim of contributing to the educational development of Nigeria. "We believe that through education, the problem of humanity could be solved," she stated.
Mrs. Tuylu revealed that efforts are also being made through her organisation to support Nigeria in the area of health development and the establishment of a comprehensive hospital for the aged and the under-privileged.
She also expressed optimism that a benefiting business relationship between Nigerian Women and their Turkish counterpart would soon be established, even as she invited the Minister to declare open a Turkish Women Conference on the position of women in the social structure coming up on the 18th of May, 2013.
