(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Labaran_Maku-300x192.jpg) The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, has called on the Board members of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice Of Nigeria(VON) to engage the citizens and inform them about the developmental programmes and operations of government saying that information dissemination is the key in any democratic governance.
The Minister made the remark while inaugurating the 20-Man Board of Directors of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice of Nigeria (VON), at Abuja.
The Minister who described both the FRCN and VON as the largest Radio network in the continent and the very best broadcast arm of radio in the continent which is comparable to international radio stations such as the BBC and the VOA, respectively, noted that the inauguration of the Boards came at a time when Nigerians have high hopes and expectations for best results.
He urged the Board members to manage the agencies effectively to enable Nigerians tap from the rich resources for which they were established.
Mr. Maku charged the Board members to ensure that the two stations are sensitive to the needs of all the segments of the polity by ensuring that every political persuasion are given liberty to express their views.
Responding on behalf of the Board members, the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Abubakar Jijiwa, noted that the inauguration of the two Boards, will deepen and strengthen democracy and add greater value to the task ahead. He promised that the members will maintain their integrity and cooperation in their given mandate in the interest of the people of Nigeria.
