Signing Robert Lewandowski is not vital for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, but they should get him if he is available, according to Munich honourary president Franz Beckenbauer.

Beckenbauer said in an interview with Tuesday's edition of the Sport Bild weekly that Munich have a strong attacking line-up with Mario Mandzukic, Mario Gomez and Claudio Pizarro.

The Borussia Dortmund and Poland striker Lewandowski is the Bundesliga top scorer with 23 goals and scored all four goals in last week's 4-1 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals.

Beckenbauer said that getting him is "not vital" for Munich but added that "if you can get him you must take him, that's clear."

Lewandowski has been subject of intense transfer speculation, either a summer move or a departure from Dortmund after the expiration of his contract in 2014.

Munich have already managed to lure Dortmund playmaker Mario Goetze to them from July 1 onwards, and Beckenbauer suggested getting Lewandowski as well may be a little too much although he and Goetze play well together.

"If you take away Lewandowski as well ... I don't know whether you want animosity in the Bundesliga," Beckenbauer said.
