Pretoria - No effort should be spared in bringing stability to the Central African Republic (CAR), President Jacob Zuma said on Friday.
"A stable, peaceful and prosperous CAR is going to contribute to the well-being of the entire central African region and the African continent," he said in a speech prepared for delivery.
"There can never be peace and prosperity without stability. All of us... should spare no effort in finding a solution that will bring about the stability of the entire central African region."
Zuma was speaking at a CAR international contact group meeting in the Republic of Congo.
He said reports of an "attempted forceful change of government" in Chad were disturbing.
"It will become even more urgent that the regional leadership of the Economic Community of Central African States finds a solution to the chronic instability of the region," Zuma said.
"We call on all those in positions of responsibility and leadership to ensure that the needless suffering of the people in the Central African Republic is brought to an end."
Thirteen South African soldiers were killed and 27 wounded on March 23 when they were attacked by Seleka rebel fighters near the CAR capital of Bangui.
