A stakeholders’ meeting on ways of ensuring transparency and accountability in the Local Government Councils in Ogun State holds next Tuesday, 7th May 2013 between the office of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the State and relevant stakeholders.

In a statement in Abeokuta, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on MDGs, Mrs. Hafsat Abiola-Costello indicated that the meeting holding at the Sagamu Local Government Town Hall will have in attendance focus groups, civil societies and key officials of Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Odogbolu and Ikenne Local Government Areas, key players of public participatory projects as well as the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND) Social Accountability Project.

She noted that the parley would focus on how to provide capacity building to government agencies and civil society organizations on identifying the needs of different groups in the society and capturing these needs during budget formulation, analysis and review.

“It is to ensure how to track the service input levels, identify priority services, facilitate a community scoring process for services and to initiate dialogue between service provider and user. The coming together of these civil organisations and official of LGAs would further enhance civic engagement in Ogun State through community scorecards and provide a platform for engagement between citizens and government through public hearings and town hall meetings” Abiola-Costello noted in the statement.

She added that the baseline report of KIND would indicate assessment of local perceptions of governance in each of the areas where the projects would be undertaken, stressing that the assessment would seek to ascertain local knowledge about local government administration presence, identification with the local area and pride, local priorities and perceived challenges and satisfaction with local services.

Transperency is what our politicians don't exhibit in this country. It is very bad of them to do that as far as i'm concerned. They need to change.
