Ogun State Ministry of Works & Infrastructure has explained that the need to ensure longevity informed the decision to use paving stones on the 2.2km Isheri- channels road in Isheri , Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the State.
The Commissioner, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite who made this known in Abeokuta disclosed that paving stones were used on the road instead of asphalt because the soil in the area is swampy in nature pointing out that asphalt would be washed off within months as it is not resistant to water. He explained that with the use of paving stones, the underground water movement would not affect the stones and if a defect is noticed, the set of stones affected could be easily removed and replaced to effect correction. “The water table in the area is very high so it is prone to flooding. Though paving stones are expensive and tedious to lay, but durable and suitable for the type of soil there” Adegbite stated. The Commissioner said laying of the stones expected to be completed within the next eight weeks had started from the two entries of the road, adding that the project is another fulfillment of government’s policy to construct roads in border communities.

They really need to work on several roads in that state. Bad roads are plenty over there. Their governor need to do more
