The past week brought several big headlines in extreme weather (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/extreme-weather/) news:- Two awe-inspiring rope tornadoes touched down (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/09/hays-kansas-tornado_n_3244959.html?utm_hp_ref=extreme-weather)in central Kansas, but didn't cause any damage.
- An incredible lightning strike was captured (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/07/grand-canyon-lightning-strike_n_3231803.html?utm_hp_ref=extreme-weather) off the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and tweeted out by the Department of the Interior.
- An American Eagle plane was struck twice by lightning (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/08/american-eagle-plane-struck-by-lightning-twice_n_3238455.html?utm_hp_ref=extreme-weather) after leaving the Detroit airport, but landed safely in New York City.
- A couple had a shocking start to their wedding as a massive lightning strike lit up their ceremony (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/06/lightning-video_n_3210315.html?utm_hp_ref=extreme-weather).
- HuffPost editor James Gerken reported on a major emissions milestone as atmospheric CO2 concentrations surpassed a 400 PPM (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/10/atmospheric-co2-concentrations_n_3253757.html) daily average for the first time in human history. Al Gore (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/al-gore/carbon-dioxide-400-parts-per-million_b_3253361.html) also weighed in. The severity of some extreme weather events has been connected to climate change.
