(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/mike-anyanwu-300x192.jpg) Senator Chris Anyanwu and the Minister of Works, Architect Mike Onolememeni, recently flagged off the construction of a major road that connects Afor Ogbe, through Ezinihitte Mbaise, up to Ngwa in Abia state and port Harcourt highway.
Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, the Senator representing Imo East Senatorial district, Senator Chris Anyanwu said that the idea of the road was entirely hers and as such, a road inter-connection between the federal highways of Owerri–Umuahia, Owerri–Okigwe and Port Harcourt-Enugu is not only desirable, but necessary.
She expressed delight that such road that connects Mbaise and Ngwa will ease traffic in Owerri and Umuahia. She noted that it will quicken the pace of travel in old Imo State and open up the country side.
Senator Anyanwu stated that the road and a modern bridge will re-unite the people of Mbaise and Ngwa after the destruction of the bridge by federal troops during the war.
She commended President Goodluck Jonathan for approving the construction of the road, describing it as democracy in action. She however, lamented that Imo State is lacking in infrastructural development and urged Mr. President to show more interest in Imo State.
In his speech, the Minister for Works, Architect Mike Onolememni assured Senator Anyanwu that the road project would be completed soon.
