The Inspector General of Police who was represented by the Deputy I.G supervising South South zone, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo, said the vision 20:2020 programme of the Federal Government can only be achieved when the nation witnesses free crime society.
He said the Nigeria Police has come up with a Transformation Programme that is aimed at ensuring security stability as well as community policing for rapid socio economic growth of the country, stressing that no nation would develop under instability.
Alhaji Attahiru observed that for effective policing and to ensure safety of lives and properties of Nigerians, there is a need for collaborative partnership which he said, will positively affect the nation's economy, most especially the Northern part of this country.
The Police boss appealed to both the electronics and print media to educate and sensitize the public on the need to assist security agents with vital information and by doing this, people would be involved in crime control, thereby ensuring peace and security in the country.
Governor Aliyu said the killing of some numbers of the Police Mobile Force at Eggon, Nassarawa State was as a result of intelligence failure. He pointed out that what was needed in such operation were silence, speed and surprise. The Governor was of the opinion that the process of embarking on the operation must have been compromised, and that community leaders could have been involved to arrange proper plans and time for the operation.
Governor Aliyu enjoined participants at the workshop to take a case study of the Eggon incident and compare with a similar operation which was organized by his administration to dislodge members of the Dar Salam sect, in Mokwa local Government Area of the state some years ago.
The Governor, who called on the Federal Government to recruit more able young men and women into the Nigeria Police Force, also identified some challenges to effective policing in the country to include inadequate funding, poor social package and equipment, lack of accommodation and institutions for training, and politicizing of the police among others.
