(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Godswill_Akpabio-300x200.jpg) The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio has cleared the air that he has no interest in contesting for the presidency in 2015 contrary to sudden emergence of posters bearing his image and that of the Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Shema as pairs for the Vice Presidential and Presidential slots in 2015.
According to a statement signed by Akwa Ibom State's Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Aniekan Umanah dissociating the Governor from the poster, the posters may just be the work of mischief makers. "We state emphatically that Governor Akpabio is not interested in the presidency in 2015 and has not mandated anybody to campaign for him. It is idiotic to even imagine that a supposed running-mate would print campaign posters announcing his ambition, when the party has not selected a candidate. But it shows the desperation of those behind it."
The Statement stated that the camp of the Governor was first alerted to the appearance of the posters in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory and "We promptly responded by issuing a statement to dissociate His Excellency, Chief Godswill Akpabio from the printing and circulation of such posters."
It further stated that "On Sunday, May 12, 2013, we were again alerted of the surfacing of another set of the posters along Obafemi Awolowo Way, Airport Road and other areas in Ikeja, Lagos. On being accosted by vigilant citizens in Lagos, those who surreptitiously like a thief in the night circulated the posters using an Osun State registered Toyota Siena car, claimed they were being sponsored by an "Honourable."
The Akwa Ibom State's Commissioner's statement expressed the belief that those behind the posters may still paste them in some other parts of the country but warned that it was all a ploy "to tarnish the soaring political reputation of Chief Godswill Akpabio."
The statement concluded that "We wish to state that the focus of Governor Akpabio presently is on the completion of his "Uncommon Transformation" agenda which has changed the face of Akwa Ibom State for good."
The Commissioner further said that "Security agencies have been put on alert to apprehend those behind the illegal printing and circulation of these posters and bring them to justice"; and urged the public to completely ignore this mischief engineered by political jobbers and continue to support the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan in the arduous task of transforming Nigeria.
