Rioting has erupted in several towns in Northern Nigeria. The riots are linked to the ongoing announcement of election results which are likely to keep Goodluck Jonathan as the President.

President Goodluck Jonathan holds a nearly insurmountable lead in results so far announced. However, the northerners largely voted for former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari.

In Kaduna, home of Nigeria's vice-president, angry young men burned tires in the streets and threw stones at police and soldiers trying to restore order, witnesses said.

Eyewitness reports state that gunfire was heard in the vicinity of the INEC offices located on Kinshasha road, Ungwan-Rimi GRA in Kaduna city.
