Electricity being central to socio-economic development must be in adequate supply to act as the main stay of thriving economy. Regular power supply would help not only the State but the nation as a whole to attain its long term development. It is in the light of this, that the State Government and authorities of Power Holding Corporation of Nigeria (PHCN) have striven for a very long time to enjoy a fair share of electricity supply to Osogbo, the Capital city of Osun State more than any area in the South–West of Nigeria. Even when there is a fault detected, they quickly swing into action to rectify it and this development has given most residents of Osogbo a cause to rejoice for stable electricity in their domain which has eluded many parts of the country.
Many people attributed this situation of improved electricity supply in Osogbo to the location of the transmission station and control centre of Power Holding Company in the town. Other factor cited include the issue of vandals which was not that pronounced in the State and the proactive nature of the State Government in assisting when necessary.
Meanwhile, electricity supply in other parts of the State is not encouraging and there is need for the Power Holding Company to improve on the power supply to those places that experience epileptic supply of power in recent times.
A community leader, Mr. Usman Raji commended Power Holding Company in the State for steady power supply, particularly in Osogbo. In the same vein, a civil servant in the State Mr. Funsho Agboola expressed his happiness with the level of power supply in the State in recent time, describing it as one of the best in Nigeria; according to him, distribution and supply of electricity across Osun was far better than in some of the other States.
Other people interviewed on power supply in the State, however, admitted that electricity supply to some towns and villages in Osun was grossly inadequate and epileptic due to some problems. They enjoined the authority to urgently address the problem as soon as possible.
