Nasarawa state House of Assembly has called for the sacking of the Managing Director of the Nasarawa Transport Service (NTS), Mr. Philip Iyakwari and asked him to vacate office within 24 hours for his incompetence at running the organization.
Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Musa Ahmed Mohammed made the call at the chamber of the State Assembly along Shendam road during the appearance of the General Manager and the amalgamated unions chairman who was represented by the secretary of the union, Mr. Paius Malthem, to give more clarifications on alleged termination of appointment of entire staff of the organization.
When answering questions on the floor of House of Assembly, the General Manager said it is true that the appointment of entire staff of the organization was terminated without one month notice issued to the junior staff; no one month notice for the senior staff also.
The Speaker said the staffers of the organization are demanding for their statutory benefits which is their monthly salaries and should not be victimized or intimidated for rendering services to the company and so all their financial entitlements should be paid in full.
The Assembly also said, government should live up to its responsibility by paying its workers as at when due to avoid future industrial dispute.
The House disclosed that the termination of appointments of the entire staff of the company contravenes articles 14 (IC) of the conditions of service and should be declared null and void and that the purported termination of appointment be reversed and the company be re-opened for business as usual, while the workers still remain in the employment of the organization but deemed to be on industrial action until their six (6) months' salary are paid.
