The Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi who delivered the items in Maiduguri said the gesture was in response to request from the Borno State Government and in line with the mandates of the Agency to provide necessary assistance for citizens in distress situations.

The DG who was represented by NEMA's Director of Administration and Supplies, Dr Zanna Muhammad said the Agency had initially intervened with relief supplies to the affected communities immediately after the flood and has now provided the supports to permanently rehabilitate the people in partnership with the State government. In addition to the issues of flood, he said the Agency has also provided various humanitarian assistances to the State over the recent security challenges that occurred including the incidences in Baga and Bama towns, respectively.

Sani Sidi advised State governments to immediately relocate communities in flood plains to safety ahead of the predicted 2013 floods to avoid the experience of last year. He assured that NEMA would support the commitment of the State governments towards the management of disasters in their areas.

Receiving the items, the Governor of Borno State Alhaji Kashim Shettima who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, Hajiya Maryam Bukar Ibrahim thanked NEMA for the prompt response in support of the State government. He said the building materials from NEMA would facilitate early completion of the project designed to permanently relocate the affected communities to safety.

The items delivered were 18, 000 bags of cement; 25, 000 pieces of planks, 10, 000 pieces of ceiling boards and 750 bags of nails.
