The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and other traffic management organizations have been urged to put in place a legislation that will ensure that licences of drivers driving under the influence of alcohol are revoked, Iyiola Oni, a professor of Geography at the University of Lagos has said.

The don made the call when he made a presentation on the dangers of drink driving at a capacity building workshop organized by the International Centre for Alcohol Policies, ICAP, through Global Actions on Harmful Drinking for Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC officials in Lagos.

He said: "The drunk driving intervention programme is very important for road safety in Nigeria since alcohol/drugs can alter perception, cognition, attention, balance, coordination, reaction time and other faculties required for safe driving.

Alcohol use is dangerous phenomenon among drivers of all categories in Nigeria and it accounts for estimated 30 percent road traffic accidents.
