At a news conference in Abuja on Friday, the cleric said that amnesty might compound Nigeria's security problem if it is given to appease criminal terrorists and their sponsors to stay calm and not to repentant militants. Catholic bishops from northern and southern Nigeria converged on the Federal Capital Territory to map out ways they consider helpful in rescuing the country from total collapse. The religious leaders appealed to politicians and state governments in the troubled regions to employ diverse intelligent means to confront the monster threatening the continued survival of the country. Rev. Kaigama also urged President Jonathan to doggedly tackle other issues of poverty, corruption as well as the power tussle in Rivers State.
