Gen Tunde Reis, AMP-10 Class President, won the Most Distinguished Alumni Award on Saturday during the annual President's Dinner held at the new Expo Centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
According to the director of alumni relations, Mr Henry Onukwuba, the Most Distinguished Alumni Award is given by the President of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association to alumni who have contributed in an outstanding way to society, and who through their actions have contributed to building an oasis of sanity, reflecting the ideals of the School.
He said: "Brig Gen. Reis was given the award in recognition of his selfless and exemplary service to humanity and in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of the housing industry in Nigeria. We also recognise his unblemished and professional career in the Nigerian Army in the past thirty years plus".
Reis, who is the brain behind the Cooperative Villas in Lagos, a housing estate with world-class communal facilities for 1,000 families, has been described as a profound strategist and symbol of innovation.
His concern for affordable housing also led to the Nigerian Army Housing Scheme delivering 1,721 houses in 19 locations all over the country under his leadership. It was awarded the 'The Most Affordable Housing Scheme and Best Product for 2005', by the Nigerian Institution of Marketing.
Brig Gen. Reis has an outstanding career recognised in several awards, including the highest award for unblemished long service in the Nigerian Army, the Grand Service Star (GSS), the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) award in 2001 and the national honour of "Officer of the Order of Niger" (OON) in 2005.
Other awards during the ceremony went to the Executive MBA-11 class as the 'Best Alumni Class', and the President's Award to Fidelity Bank Plc in recognition of the bank's contribution to the growth and development of LBS.
Over 600 alumni and friends attended the dinner and award ceremony.
