Title: LCDA restates commitment to floods control

Chairman, Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, has disbursed N2.9m to community development areas to tackle floods in the locality.

Bamigbetan said on Friday that the money was granted to 74 CDAs to clear drains in their streets.

Each CDA received N40, 000.

Bamigbetan, while addressing the CDAs, said, "This is the second time our administration will disburse grants to CDAs for the purpose of clearing their drainages in two years. Last year, we gave out N2.76m to 69 CDAs and the exercise was successful."

He told the community leaders that the N40, 000 allocated to each CDA for the exercise might be little but if judiciously used would go a long way in reducing the incidence of avoidable floods, particularly as it had been predicted by experts that this year's rain would be heavy.

Bamigbetan added that the initiative was proactive in nature, as the CDAs were expected to swing into action after receiving the grants by clearing drainage channels that had already been identified by them, saying that would pave the way for free flow of water when rains begin.
