The National Commission for Nomadic Education, NCNE, has handed over a two classroom block to Yagalamu Community in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Handing over the project, the acting executive secretary of the NCNE, Mallam Ibrahim Yamta said, it is part of the commission's efforts at improving the learning environment and making education worthwhile for the nomadic child.
He told the community and Parents Teachers Association, PTA, to put the facility to good use and work out a sustainable maintenance culture.
The village head of Ture- Okra where the school is located, Musa Kwarams, commended the commission for the bold step at improving the quality of education of his people especially the nomads, just as he called on government to do more in the renovation of schools in the area.
Speaking during a courtesy call on Chairman of Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Professor Mohammed Gurama, Mallam Yamta said the commission is scouting for location to build a model nomadic school, even as he stated that the Millennium Development Goals, MDG's, is desirous to assist in the construction.
He said the mandate of the programme is based on the primary education sector, adding that the commission had been providing infrastructure, training and other facilities even as he decries the dearth of teachers in the schools.
He said "in Gombe State, we have a total enrollment of 10, 495 nomadic pupils in 76 schools comprising 5, 972 males and 4, 487 females".
Professor Mohammed Gurama Dukku expressed happiness with what the commission is doing in the state,as he said the government is already in the process of posting 1,000 NCE teachers to primary schools and allayed the fears of not having enough qualified teachers.
