About 5,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State at the weekend defected to the Labour Party, LP.
The defectors led by a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. 'Ladi Adebutu, held a rally at Isara in Remo North where they announced their defection to LP.
Posters of the defectors, under the aegis of Ladi Adebutu Democratic Organisation, LADO, bearing the LP logo, littered the streets of Iperu, Isara and other adjourning towns of Remo North.
Addressing his supporters and at the unity rally, Adebutu said they took the decision because the internal crisis rocking the state chapter of the PDP would make it difficult for the party to genuinely represent the interest of the electorate in 2015 and beyond.
The former lawmaker explained the leadership of PDP in Ogun State headed by Prince Buruji Kashamu had excluded the interest of other stakeholders, adding that this had fragmented the party.
Speaking later with journalists in his Iperu home, Adebutu explained that he defected to the LP with 5,000 followers from the PDP because of Kashamu's leadership style.
Adebutu, who is the son of the multi-billionaire businessman, Chief Kessington Adebutu, accused Kashamu of excluding the others, including Jubril Martins-Kuye and the former President Olusegun Obasanjo's groups from the affairs of the party.
He also disclosed that he would soon lead thousands of his supporters in Shagamu and Odogbolu local government areas to LP.
