The Ogun State government has concluded plans to establish a Citizen’s Right Directorate in the State.This is part of its plan to decongest the cause list of courts as the Directorate would use moral persuasion or other non-judicial methods to resolve amicably issues between parties, thus reducing the number of cases that would have been taken to the courts.
Rising from the State’s Executive Council weekly meeting, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs. Abimbola Akeredolu told journalists that the proposal for a law to formally establish the Directorate had gotten government’s approval.
According to her, the Council had already directed that a Memorandum seeking to establish the Directorate be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for further necessary action.
She said “Since the Director and other staff of the Directorate are already members of staff of the Ministry of Justice, the passage of the bill would not significantly increase government’s expenditure”.
