Leaders of the various Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Ogun State have been admonished not to force unpopular programmes on their people, but should rather implement those that would be of immense benefits to members.
The State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Chief Samuel Duro Aiyedogbon gave this admonition while presenting certificate of recognition to the executives of the Ikereku/Ayedun CDA, Odeda Local Govertnment Area of the State. As he puts it, implementation of programmes that are generally not accepted by the members would naturally set the leadership of CDAs on a coalition course with the members adding that when this occur, communal development would suffer.
“Whatever position of authority one finds himself, one should be ready to be a servant of the people and not their master. Executives of various CDAs should know that they are voted by their people in order to serve them, not getting there and start forcing programmes and policies that are not in any way relevant to the wellbeing of the people they are voted to serve” Aiyedogbon noted.
Represented by a Deputy Director in the Ministry, Mrs Oluseye Fatundimu, Chief Aiyedogbon said that his Ministry was committed to facilitating sustainable development in all the communities in the State through people’s participation in governance, urging CDAs executives to be transparent in their financial dealings.
In his presentation, Chairman of Ikereku/Ayedun CDA, Chief Raufu Showunmi thanked the State Government for providing a new transformer to his community, and requested that it should do more for his people in the provision of potable water, health centres and grading of the community roads among others.
