Four persons have been arrested in Enugu for alleged vandalism of railway tracks on the Port Harcourt to Makurdi route.
The vandals were arrested by vigilantes at Amaodu,Nkanu-West Local Council Area of Enugu State. Narrating this, the Eastern District Manager of Nigerian Railway Corporation,NRC, Mr. Felix Njoku said,"Our tracks, weighing 80 pounds each were vandalised at Amaodu in Nkanu. The culprits were arrested by vigilantes and handed over to Nigeria Railway Police".
"The vehicles used in the operation were a trailer and pickup van. The four suspects are already in police custody. The success in apprehending the culprits is attributable to the visit we made to heads of communities early this year, calling on them to help in protecting railway properties in their communities," he revealed.
He further called on the public to always avail security operatives of timely information that will check the nefarious activities of vandals, while calling on community leaders to assist the Federal Government in its drive to resuscitate the moribund railway lines in the South-East region.
