Ezenwo Nyelsom Wike, has bagged two awards for his uncommon drive to enhance educational development in the country, especially basic education. This is even as he said that he will continue to do his best to the growth of the sector in line with the transformation agenda of the administration.
Presenting the Nigeria-Arise Award 2013 to the Minister in his office, the Regional Director, Ben TV, UK, Mr. Lanre Ijora, said that the Minister's selection for the award was based on aggregate of online voters for the most valuable Minister of State in Nigeria.
According to him, the choice of Wike was based on his consistent building of synergy with development partners to ensure that a workable framework is developed to achieve the present administration's goals on education, especially as concern vocational and technical education.
Speaking, while handing the award to the Minister, Mr. Stephen Izedomi, General Manager, Ben TV, Africa, said: "This award is taken seriously because it is based on what people say and not what we say."
In the same vein, presenting City-People Magazine Award for Excellence to the Minister, Mr. Bamidele Ogunbano, Managing Editor, City-people Magazine, said Barr. Wike has carved a niche that is worthy of emulation by other leaders.
Mr. Ogunbano, who described Wike as man of determination, said that the award is in recognition of his remarkable contribution to the development of the education sector, particularly youth development in Nigeria.
Speaking, while receiving the awards, Wike expressed delight for the recognition, adding that the awards will spur him to do more.
He particularly thanked the media, saying that without letting the people to know what is being done, the recognition would not have been possible. Also, he thanked Mr. President for giving him the opportunity to contribute to the Transformation Agenda, as well as the management staff of the Ministry for their support.
He said he will continue to partner with the media with a view to letting people to know what is being done to transform the country, particularly in the education sector.
