The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday, licenced 30 Private Security Guards Companies (PGCs).This is in its bid to engage other private individuals in the fight against criminality in the country Speaking while issuing the licences at the headquarters of the Corps in Abuja, Commandant General of the Corps, Ade Abolurin, urged the beneficiaries to help in protecting government facilities and other public infrastructures in the country.
Abolurin noted that the country is haunted by the activities of various militant groups in the country, adding that it is expedient for other private individuals to key into the agenda.
He said: "Nigeria has had a turbulent time in he hands of disgruntled elements who have hijacked the peace process in the country. All private individuals and well meaning Nigerians need to key in to this agenda to put an end to the insecurity.
"Government alone cannot solve the insecurity that we are presently facing. Therefore, I would like you to see this as a service to your father land and not a money making venture".
The NSCDC boss further called on other Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies in their locality and provide them with information at would help them arrest the situation.
Responding on behalf of the PGCs, Brig. Gen. Ojo Komolafe (rtd), urged his fellow beneficiaries to be professional in their duties and to always use intelligent gathering as a means of acquiring information.
