Federal Capital Territory Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, has said the 8,000 square kilometers of land that make up the FCT belongs to the Federation Government with the President as the trustee. Speaking during a special presentation to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) at the Wadata Plaza, Mohammed explained that in his capacity as the Minister, he was only exercising the powers delegated to him by the President and Commander-in-Chief in allocating lands to prospective developers in line with the provisions of Section 299 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He said that despite that reality, he has personally made it a prerequisite that under the land swap programme of the FCTA, the investors from the very beginning adopt a resettlement and compensation policy that take into consideration the concerns of all critical stakeholders especially the original inhabitants.

Responding, leadership of the PDP urged the Minister to give expedited approval to its officials' application for land.

The PDP officials made the request yesterday while hosting the Minister who came to the party's headquarters for briefing on his performance in furtherance to its manifesto and President Goodluck Jonathan's transformation agenda.

The PDP National Auditor, Alhaji Fatai Adeyanju, counseled the Minister to further educate the people on the policies of the FCT and reminded him that several of their land applications were laying on his table urging him to expedite action on their approvals.

He said, "I know you have requests on your table for land for PDP staff, I do not know whether you have attended to them."

The PDP Woman Leader, Ambassador Kema Chikwe, also re-emphasized the request pleading with the Minister to urgently attend to the applications so that party officials can be land owners in Abuja.
