A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mohammed Sanda Ngamdu, has called on the people of Borno state to cooperate with the security agents while the state of emergency lasts. Ngamdu,, who represents Kaga/Magumeri/Gubio federal constituency of Borno state in the House, made this call while speaking with newsmen in Abuja, saying the cooperation was needed in order to ensure that the security agents achieve the set targets of the state of emergency declaration. He also decried the setback which insecurity has caused the northern region of the country.
The lawmaker also advised the military to ensure that it conducts its operations according to best professional practice adding that it is very important that relief materials are made available to areas seriously affected by the emergency, so as to reduce sufferings that the people of the areas may be exposed to. "The Red Cross and NEMA should also be allowed to do their work properly without any restriction," he stressed.
On the issue of cooperation with the military, Ngamdu said in order to avoid unnecessary loss of lives while the operations last, "it is important that the people of Borno state co-operate with the military authorities so as to avoid unnecessary confrontation with the people of the state."
He also decried the insecurity in the state and other states around the North-East which led to the declaration of state of emergency saying it was an ill wind which did no body any good in the region. According to him, it was not in the best interest of the people of the region to have faced such ugly incidence as seen in the actions of the insurgents who wanted to hold the entire region to ransom with their demands which was not in tune with reality on ground.
He also urged the security operatives to ensure that they comply with heir rules of engagement in such situations. "It is imperative to commend the attitude of the people in cooperating with the military in as much as I also urge the Presidency never to abandon the dialogue approach which it has pursued so far because it is by so doing that we will achieve the wholistic approach to the attainment of peace in the region."
