In furtherance of her commitment to continually enhance the living condition of the aged in Ogun State, Wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun under her Uplift Development Foundation Programme has given out 500 free welfare bank cards to elderly persons drawn from across the 20 Local Government areas of the State.
Speaking while presenting the cards facilitated by Ecobank Plc to the beneficiaries at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Mrs Amosun said the welfare bank cards would help reduce the rigour and other challenges always encountered during the distribution of food and commodities to them. She explained that with the cards, the stress of coming to Abeokuta would be addressed and enable beneficiaries to collect stipends to purchase food items of their choice and depend less on their children, saying it is another demonstration of the State Government’s commitment to give more dividends of democracy to the people.
“The Welfare Bank Card is my way of tuning in with the proposed cashless policy of the State government to reduce handling of cash. This I believe will go a long way in uplifting the lives of our revered citizens and contribute positively to the development of our economic” Mrs. Amosun stated. Also speaking, the Executive Director, EcoBank PLC, Mr. Kingsley Aigokibuve said the card would enable the senior citizens access the monthly allowance given them by the First Lady without stress and at the comfort of their homes, commending Ogun State for being a pacesetter in people-oriented projects as it moves to rebuild the State.
He thanked the First Lady for giving EcoBank the opportunity to partner with her Foundation and the State Government, urging other States to emulate the project in order to give succour to the less privileged in the society. Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, 75 year old Madam Alice Bello from Ikenne Local Government commended Mrs. Amosun for the initiative, describing her as a caring and compassionate woman who is committed to the well - being of the needy, particularly the aged.
