Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has praised the work that manager Brendan Rodgers has done during his first season in charge.
.
A run of just one defeat in 12 matches helped Rodgers's side to seventh place in the Premier League - their highest points tally in three seasons.
.
"I think Brendan has made remarkable progress," Werner said.
.
"He's a great strategist and has shown strong leadership as he has led the team through this season."
.
"Our intention is to strengthen the squad further this summer and as owners we're very optimistic and excited about the future", Tom Werner, Liverpool Chairman.
.
Rodgers will celebrate a year in charge at Anfield next week, having succeeded Kenny Dalglish at the end of the 2011-12 campaign in which Liverpool finished eighth, on 52 points.
.
In his debut season, Rodgers improved on the tally by nine points and the Reds also scored more than 70 goals in a league campaign for only the second time in 12 seasons.
.
The former Swansea manager failed to deliver any silverware but Werner is encouraged by the side's recent momentum.
.
"The club is definitely moving in the right direction under Brendan," he told the Liverpool Echo.
.
"Obviously there is disappointment that we didn't finish higher in the table but the team has certainly improved as the season has gone on.
.
"We scored a lot more goals than last season. The 38 away league goals was the club's highest number in a league season since 1990."
.
Rodgers allowed nine players to leave the club during his first campaign but added Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho to his squad in January.
.
A fee has been agreed with West Ham for the sale of Andy Carroll and Werner hopes to support his manager's wishes to add more quality to the squad if a push for Champions League qualification is to be achieved next season.
I do not think the man deserves any praise. He hasn't done well in Liverpool so far. The club has lost his taste.
