The Ogun State government has re-stated its commitment at ensuring that Technical and Vocational Education is re-positioned to take an enviable heights in the country.
The commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Segun Odubela gave the assurance while speaking on the achievements of the Ministry at the on-going 2013 Ministerial Press briefing held at the governor’s office press centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to him, government is focusing on the technical and vocational sub-sector to ensure its revival, adding that bringing back the vocational skills is the goal of the present administration.
“Government is focusing on the technical and vocational skills in order to turn around the subsector. The survival of this very important sector will bring back the vocational skills training hence,the board, chaired by Mrs. . Doyin Ogunbiyi was recently inaugurated..
On the N200m WAEC fee scam that was uncovered, Barrister Odubela said that the police is investigating the report and that the present administration would not condone any fraudulent practice adding that a lot of money has been committed to the sector.
Speaking further on the achievements recorded so far by his Ministry, the commissioner said government would sustain its free education policy in both public primary and Secondary schools adding that about N2billion was spent on the purchase of text books, N750million spent on instructional materials and about N120m distributed to students of tertiary institutions as bursary.
Other achievements include prompt payment of subventions, Salaries and allowances, purchase and distribution of laboratory equipment to secondary Schools, among others.
