Niger state Governor Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu, has called on the people living at the border towns of the state to be more security alert so as to avert the infiltration of the state by terrorists fleeing from the troubled areas. He made this known in Minna while inaugurating the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Board and Security Committee on Vigilante.
Aliyu said that with the declaration of the state of emergency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states to arrest the activities of the insurgents, there is need to be security conscious. According to Aliyu, "please, if you see any new face in your community, report to security agents immediately and those of you living by the borders, Shiroro, Rafi, Borgu, Rijau, Agwarra, Magama and Mokwa should be vigilant because we do not know where they will be coming in from.
"We must all as a people work together to avert the infiltration of the state by terrorists fleeing from the troubled areas."
"We have enjoyed relative peace in the state, and we cannot afford to allow strange people who do not mean well for us to come in and cause problems for us.
Also, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the state Governor Captain James Baitachi (retired) told newsmen that all the security operatives in the state have also been put on alert to check any attempt by the insurgents to turn the state to a haven.
Captain Baitachi said that government has told traditional rulers, village and district heads to monitor people coming into their communities and report those suspected to be of questionable character to security agents.
According to him, "there is a massive military operation going on in these states insurgents may run from these areas to Niger state this is why we should be on the alert and report any strange person to the security agencies".
