Post by: MyInfoStride on Apr 25, 2011, 05:25 PM
The Civionics Research Centre at UWS is seeking an excellent doctoral candidate to undertake a funded project  entitled "Vortex and force characteristics of inclined offshore cylindrical structures in oscillatory flows (via UWA)".

About the Project

Oscillatory flow around a circular cylinder is of practical and fundamental importance because of its relevance to the design of slender cylindrical structures, such as marine cables, risers, subsea pipelines in the marine environment. Understanding hydrodynamic forces on these structures is essential in the design in the offshore engineering. The PhD students will be involved in numerical research on three-dimensional vortex shedding flow around offshore cylindrical structures such as subsea pipelines, cables, risers, etc.

Criteria

The successful applicant should:
•   Hold an excellent Bachelor Honours degree in civil or mechanical engineering or equivalent qualifications and/or experience

What does the scholarship provide?
•   Tax free stipend of $27,651 per annum and a funded place in the doctoral degree. International candidates may be charged fees.
•   Funding may also available for project costs

How to apply
•   Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr Ming Zhao to discuss the project prior to submitting an application.
•   Applicants should submit the Application Form (http://www.uws.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/184811/Civionics_CURRENT_APPN_FORM.pdf) (PDF, 396Kb) and a CV by the closing date

Need more information?
