Determined to keep the people adequately informed about its policies and programmes, the Ogun State Government will continue to take necessary steps to build a robust and efficient information management machinery to bridge the gap between government and the governed.
State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Yusuph Olaniyonu who made this declaration today in Abeokuta at the commemorative ministerial press briefing, pointed out that the achievements recorded by the government in the last two years is attributable to the understanding created among the people through the unrelenting efforts of the various information management machineries in the State.
Olaniyonu said that government had embarked on the rejuvenation of relevant agencies such as the Ministry of Information, OGBC and OGTV, adding that this had brought about renewed vigour and attitudinal changes that had reflected positively in the day to day relay of Government’s programmes and policies to the listening public.
The Commissioner added that one of such steps was the creation of a feedback unit empowered with four dedicated GSM lines through which members of the public could interface with government on their complaints and demands, adding that the hitherto moribund Zonal Information Offices at Ijebu-Ode, Ogbere, Sagamu, Ado-Ota and Aiyetoro areas of the State were resuscitated to further take governance to the grassroots.
He disclosed further that already government had signed a N1.2b contract for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for OGTV to ensure better performance and aid its smooth transition to the digital technology before the 2015 deadline of the National Broadcasting Commission, adding that similar gesture would soon be extended to OGBC.
“Concerning OGTV, the State Government has awarded a contract for the supply of equipment worth N1.2bn to upgrade facilities at the station. The supply of the new equipment and its installation is expected to be completed by the end of the year. I can authoritatively tell you that we have approached NBC for license for satellite network broadcasting permit and this will be achievable by the end of the next quarter,” he stated.
