Title: NGF is an illegal body, says SAN
Post by: Mirror on May 28, 2013, 05:30 AM
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Abeny Mohammed, has said that the Nigerian Governors' Forum, NGF, was an illegal entity which should not have been used to heat up the nation's polity.

Speaking with our correspondent in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday, Mohammed said it was unfortunate that NGF, which had no place in the constitution, had become an issue that governors who had serious constitutional responsibilities to do, concerned themselves with. The lawyer regretted that the states' resources and structures had been channelled towards this unwholesome venture.

The SAN said though the governors had the right to associate, they way they conducted an election for just 36 of them showed their incapability to function within a standard democracy that the country strongly desired.

He said: "It is a shame. I hope whichever side that is displeased with the other will go to court so that they can further build illegality on illegality. "Their recent outing has shown the type of leaders we have. I am not happy also that the name of Mr. President is being dragged into this show. He ought to know by now how unreliable human beings can be. If at all he is interested, he should have been more discreet about it. The totality of that episode is shameful.

"If I were the President and I saw the level of desperation in Governor Rotimi Amaechi, I would have subtly supported his ambition with my offices and thereafter made him do my bidding too. It would not have been this messy, honestly.
