In its effort to maintain physical development orderliness and curb illegal development across the State, the Ogun State Government is planning to set up a Physical Planning Tribunal to try offenders of planning laws in the State. Commissioner for Physical Planning, Mr. Adebayo Fari who dropped this hint at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta on the proposed review of the State Urban and
Regional Planning Law 2005, revealed that the tribunal would be headed by a retired judge. Fari said the meeting which had in attendance professionals in the building industry such as Architects, Surveyors and Lawyers among others was conveyed because of the need to extract and collate their inputs as the government was moving to address shortcomings and inadequacies of the law which does not meet present realities.
“We are regulators on this side, and they are operators on the other side, so we need to come together as partners to brainstorm on the workings of that law such that all of us can give our contributions to make it work in tandem with present realities” he explained.
He also revealed that the Urban and Regional Planning Board which at the moment has a General Manager and about 25 members would be reorganized to have a General Manager with 15 members, adding that representatives of all relevant stakeholders would be given slots in the board membership.
