Fear has gripped nonnatives of Kano following the killing of two Igbo businessmen in the city by gunmen. National Mirror learnt that at about 7:30pm last Friday, the two gunmen stormed an electronics shop on Baban Layi, Kurna Asabe area of the city and shot the two businessmen to death.
The victims, Ibe Ugwuanyi (30) and Eke Osita Joseph (35), were indigenes of Nsukka in Enugu State. An eyewitness, who identified himself as a kinsman of the victims, said: "On the fateful day, Ugwuanyi, who had his shop on Ibadan Road, Sabon Gari, Kano, went to Baban Layi, Kurna Asabe, to visit Joseph and to also watch movies as he always did after the close of the day's business. "While they were discussing, the two gunmen stormed the shop and opened fire on them and fled the scene.
"Ibe was shot on the forehead, while Joseph was shot on the chest and they died on the spot. "The police have assured us that they would arrest the killers and we are waiting to see that justice is done.
Those two people are very quit and easy-going, I wonder why anyone would want to kill them." Their bodies have, however, been deposited at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital mortuary. The Police Public Relations Officer, Magaji Musa Majia, confirmed the incident, but described it as a case of assassination.
He said: "From the way the assailants carried out the attack, it cannot be said to be a terrorist attack. "We believe it could be as a result of a business deal; but I must tell you that investigation is on and detectives will apprehend the perpetrators."
