(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/NEWS-8-300x192.jpg) The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu has affirmed that President Goodluck Jonathan is delivering on his promise to alleviate the adverse impact of the partial removal of oil subsidy on Nigerians.
(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/NEWS-18-300x200.jpg)Wogu, made these remarks during the sensitization and appraisal tour of the Community Services, Women and Youth Employment (CSWYE) Project of SURE-P in Asaba, Delta State, South-South Geo-political Zone.
During a courtesy call on the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, he stated, "In January, 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan promised to alleviate the impact of the fall out of the partial removal of fuel subsidy, he has fulfilled these promises, as evidences before us today confirm that he has done so through the Community Service, Women and Youth Employment (CSWYE) Project; one of the project components under the Social Safety Net Programme (SSNP), which is just one out of the eight programmes under the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) of the Federal Government"; the Minister stated.
In an interactive session with over 5,000 persons comprising Delta State Governor's representatives, representative of SURE-P Projects from the 6 states in the zone including beneficiaries, he added that, "You are no doubt aware that we are benefiting from this project due to the determination of the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to reinvest the savings from partial petroleum subsidy removal on infrastructure development and people-oriented projects and programmes."
(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/NEWS-16-300x200.jpg)In terms of concrete achievement, Wogu revealed that the Community Service Women and Youth Employ Project has engaged and deployed 3,426 Deltans made up of 1,610 males, 1,816 females and 256 disabled persons, deployed to 256 project sites, spread across the 3 Senatorial Districts and 25 Local Government Areas in the State. Each of the five other States in the South-South geopolitical zone has also engaged 3,000 beneficiaries each, giving a total of 18,426 beneficiaries deployed to the geopolitical zone, most of who have been deployed to about 1,000 project sites in each of the over 100 Local Government Areas in the six South-South States.
The Minister noted that in pursuant of the employment creation initiative of the Federal Government the CSMYEP has an annual target of 5,000 beneficiaries in each of the 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
In his remarks, the Executive Governor of Delta State Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan stated that the various programmes of the SURE-P are well thought out by Mr. President to alleviate whatever may have been the fall out of the partial removal of fuel subsidy, he assured the Minister of the total support of his state to the programme. "I want to on behalf of the people of Delta state thank Mr. President for keeping his words, CSWYEP of SURE-P is a programme that we are very interested in, we want to give it all the support to ensure the success of it, and as for partnership, we also want to partner with the Federal Government to see how we can do more because if we are talking of a future of total removal of subsidy we must give confidence to the people and this is one of the programmes that will give confidence to the people", Dr. Uduaghan posited.
(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/NEWS-7-300x200.jpg)While speaking at the occasion both the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku and the Special Adviser to Mr. President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Gullak described the CSWYE of SURE-P as a success "Before now, many people called this programme SURE-Programme but because of the successes this programme has recorded all over the States, many are now calling it SURE-PROGRESS from a SURE-PRESIDENT".
