Aside from ensuring due process in governance, Ogun State House of Assembly also remains a partner in the development process being put in place by the Executive in the state. Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Suraj Ishola Adekunbi stated this today during a television programme in Abeokuta.
Adekunbi noted that as an arm of government, the Assembly was a true representative of the people and as such all issues relating to socio-economic development of the people through legislative and over–sight functions were being discharged with vigor and promptness it deserved.
He explained that the Assembly had always ensured that due process was followed on issues and policies relating to budgeting and implementation, funding of infrastructure as well as other programmes.
Speaking on the recent proposed amendment to the Pension act of 2006 Rt. Hon. Adekunbi said stakeholders’ forum on the amendment would be done to allow inputs from all segments so that whatever decision arrived at would be people oriented.
On funding of primary education in the state, the speaker clarified that the current administration had been paying the state’s counterpart funds to UBEC in order to allow SUBEB access the fund allocated for the renovation of public primary schools and procurement of equipment for the various schools in the state.
According to him, the assembly recently passed a resolution assisting the government to source for fund to pay the 2013 counterpart fund to enable it renovate more schools adding that constituency projects being embarked upon by the legislators were in line with community demands and were part of the complimentary roles of the assembly in making life more abundant for the people.
The speaker seized the opportunity to commend the Senator Ibikunle Amosun Led-administration for extending infrastructural development to the various parts of the state, stressing the six lane Olodo- Olorunda – Ayetoro and Ilara – Ijoun - ilase road which covered four local government areas in Ogun west Senatorial district would engender development of the area.
