As children mark the 2013 children's day celebration, the need for them to have an atmosphere of peace and stability in the society was emphasized.

He said children should not be subjected to any kind of abuse at home, school or anywhere and urged people to report any suspicious acts of harmful activities on the children to relevant authorities.

The Governor said his administration will continue to domesticate all treaties of the Africa Union to ensure that the rights of the children are implemented under the target set by the MDG.

He disclosed that his government is working hard to increase school enrolment level, literacy level and gender parity in education, adding that efforts are also being made to control HIV/AIDS, malaria and other health affliction that threaten the existence of the children.

Orji said, the children are considered the greatest collective assets of the nation that should be prepared for the future; saying, necessary things must be done to provide the children with adequate education and good health in a secure environment.

He therefore, called on stakeholders to develop an environment where children are allowed to grow up in love in a secure family sector and enjoy a self esteem that will guide them through their adulthood.

Some students interviewed, asked the government to assist the schools to enhance their education and protection.

Highlights of the celebration were the march past by school children and a party organized by the Office of the wife of the Governor for children.
