The Nigerian Navy in Rivers State has arrested 10 suspects involved in oil bunkering.
The Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny, Captain Chukwuemeka Okafor gave this information while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt recently. He said the suspects were arrested on board a Motor Barge MB), Vleiland by his men who were on routine patrol.
Captain Okafor who said that the suspects have been interrogated by the patrol team confirmed that investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the level of oil theft and operations in the high sea. He further said that preliminary investigation revealed that the vessel had 1,300 metric tons of substance suspected to be crude oil.
The Commanding Officer condemned illegal bunkering and vowed that there would be no hiding place for crude oil thieves in the State. He therefore warned oil thieves to desist from such economic sabotage and embrace legal business in their own interest and welfare of the society at large.
He however, said that the suspects would be handed over to the relevant authority after investigation must have been completed.
