Title: John Obuh Wants Belgian Scalp
Post by: Folami David on Jun 01, 2013, 04:41 PM
Head coach of the Nigeria Under-20 national team, John Obuh has insisted that nothing short of a victory will be tolerated when his wards take on Belgium in their second game at the ongoing Toulon tournament in France.
.
The Flying Eagles lost 0-2 to defending champions, Mexico in their opening game of the competition on Wednesday and Obuh is looking for a rapid response when his side take on Belgium on Sunday.
.
"We have seen the mistakes we made in the first game and having corrected them, we want to show that we have learned by putting up a better performance against Belgium (on Sunday)," Obuh told supersport.com.
.
Obuh acknowledged that Wednesday's result did not go down well with the fans but stressed that the competition was merely a tune up tournament aimed at preparing the side for the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey later this month.
.
"We understand that Nigerians were not happy with the result against Mexico but we want to assure them that we will aim for a better result against Belgium.
.
"We also want the fans to understand that this is a preparatory tournament and the main thing is the World Cup in Turkey.
.
"We will try to win our remaining matches but our main goal is to make Nigerians smile at the World Cup," he noted.
.
The Belgians lost 1-2 to Brazil in their first game.
.
They also lost 0-2 to Portugal in their second game of the competition on Friday with the Flying Eagles in the stands to watch the game at the Nimes Olympique Stadium.
.
Obuh is expected to give more fringe players like left-back Jamilu Collins, goalkeepers Sebastian Osigwe and John Felegha, Daniel Etor as well as Charlton Athletic youth defender, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi a chance to stake a claim for a place in the final World Cup squad.
.
Sunday's match will be played at the Parc des Sports in Avignon from 5.30pm local time, which is4.30pm Nigerian time.
.
The game is also live on SuperSport 3 Nigeria.

He should coach this guys very well on how to score goals when the need arises. Kudos to the team for their unity though.
